ABOUT US

The Nissokarama was founded by Australian Sri Lankan Monk Bhante Pannasobhana, with hopes of offering Buddhist teachings, retreats, spiritual activism and to create meaningful spiritual connections between Buddhist Practitioners and a sense of connectedness with the wider Buddhist community through Chaplaincy, Counselling and Education. We aim to bring Buddhist compassion and teachings into Australia. Although we focus on those people who come to us or who are already Buddhist we do not discriminate to make available the services to people of all cultures and backgrounds.

“Nissoka” in Buddhist terms means “no worries”- “no pain”- “no suffering”

a physical and mental state that all beings are striving to achieve in their

lifetime.

We as a Buddhist charity make it a realistic goal, our mission to bring

that state little closer by our spiritual and social community activities for

the benefit of all sentient beings.

OUR VISION

We are striving hard towards a society that is supported and continually improved by application of Buddhist philosophical understanding, positive social engagement, and ongoing physical and mental wellbeing in achieving a kind, compassionate individual with ‘no worries’ contributing to a peaceful nation.

OUR COMMUNITY

At Nissokarama, ‘how’ we do things is as important as ‘what’ we do. We express our organisational values by working together as a ‘Buddhist Team-Based Right Livelihood.’

We aim to create an organisation and community that facilitates personal, professional and spiritual development while we strive towards our

Vision & Mision.

Committed to achieving the best possible standards of practice and the best experience for our supporters & benefactors.

OUR CORE VALUES

Our mission is to relieve suffering of those in need both mentally and physically while creating a better world for all through compassion love and hope.

Our values encompass respect, love, and compassion for one another. They also include a strong belief in integrity, the spirit of cooperation, diversity, and inclusivity.

OUR SERVICES

1

Mindfulness & Resilience Training

Mindfulness is an innate human capacity that enables people to intentionally focus on what they experience in the moment with an attitude of openness, curiosity and care.

Although it is not owned by any group, the cultivation of mindfulness can be found in many ancient contemplative traditions and the most comprehensive approach is found in Buddhist teachings.

We offer free classes and integrative workshops, mind-body training that enables people to change the way they think and feel about their experiences, especially stressful experiences.

2

Teacher Training

Our free training programmes  are shaped by time-tested ancient Buddhist wisdom and meditation manuals used for the past three thousand years.

We also offer modern research-based MBSR-MBCT teaching material, that acknowledge your background knowledge, skills and personal mindfulness practice to provide a professional, safe and recognised training. These are intended to suit the varying backgrounds and needs of different people within the community.

3

Coaching-Mentoring-Chaplaincy

The impact of mental illness on society is far reaching and has been identified as the leading cause of sickness absence and work disability in most developed countries.

We cater evidence-based solutions that are practical, affordable, and accessible, with potential to deliver substantial economic benefits while improving the lives of the community.

4

Spiritual Support

Although our charter is to focus on the existing Buddhist community of Australia, we do not discriminate to make available the teachings of the Buddha to people of all cultures and backgrounds.

Nissokarama welcomes people of all races, nationalities and those from the lgbti community.

We draw inspiration from all the great Buddhist schools to facilitate practice in a contemporary cultural context.

5

Community Service

Beyond a mere comfort in troubling times, inner capacities such as mindfulness and compassion are the missing piece in our understanding of humanity’s most urgent challenges. Nissokarama team works to build inner capacities into society’s bigger picture, bringing the understanding of inner mechanisms of the mind into society to treat the training of heart and mind as a serious matter of public interest that we consider as ultimate social service.

6

Wellbeing Retreats

Meditation & Yoga retreats can help you slow down, immerse yourself in stillness, and recharge your body and mind.

We spend so much of our time glued to our screens or existing amidst media, advertisements, social media, texts, and emails, Meditation retreats should be delivered to a method that give you a chance to experience time outside of the chaos of everyday life — the absence of noise allows you space for reflection, rest, and flickers of presence.

Our retreat programs facilitate a period of rest and recovery from the busyness of everyday life allowing to immerse themselves in a peaceful, tranquil setting, where they may explore their inner world without all of the usual distractions.
